DESY is a German national lab for research into the structure of matter, which focuses on Astroparticle Physics. In gamma-ray astronomy, DESY is the only institute with involvement in all three current-generation Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope systems H.E.S.S., MAGIC, VERITAS. For H.E.S.S. DESY is responsible for the data acquisition system and has constructed and commissioned the second-generation cameras of the four 12-metre telescopes. Services offered by the infrastructure: DESY scientists provide expertise on the H.E.S.S. transients online system and on science related to GRBs, Novae, interacting binaries, AGN and supernovae. For CTA, DESY hosts the Science Data Management Centre, one of the four sites of the observatory. It is also preparing significant observatory in-kind contributions in the areas of software and computing as well as medium-sized telescope structures and small-sized telescope cameras.
