The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) will be the first space-based gravitational-wave observatory. LISA, adopted by ESA in January 2024 after key tech validation by LISA Pathfinder, is now in construction. Launch is planned around 2035. This space mission, operating in the millihertz band (0.1–100 mHz), will detect gravitational waves from sources like massive black hole mergers, extreme mass ratio inspirals, and Galactic compact binaries such as white dwarf binaries, undetectable by ground-based detectors.
